The Fall of Guardia is an offscreen event that occurs between the events of Chrono Trigger and those of Chrono Cross.

Chrono Trigger[]

In the year 1005 A.D. a country attacked Guardia and was able to bring it down. In the aftermath of these events, the Masamune was taken away by an unknown party. This was revealed in an FMV scene included in the 1999 PlayStation re-release of the game and, alongside the small scene of Lucca finding the baby Kid in the forest, may have been added to strengthen Chrono Cross' ties to Trigger.

Chrono Cross[]

Careful examination of the Porrean standard reveals that Porre was, in fact, the country that brought down Guardia 15 years prior. Furthermore, the theft of the Masamune could have led to its corruption in Chrono Cross, in line with Japanese superstitions regarding the cleaning of bloodied swords to prevent demonic possession, and how the Masamune was not cleaned when it was taken away.

Chrono Trigger (DS)[]

In the version of the Dimensional Vortex that appears in the Present, Once-King Dalton states that he intends to raise an army in Porre to wipe Guardia off the map. The party's response depends on its members.

The FMV that reveals the Fall of Guardia plays after the DS version's credits, instead of Crono and Marle's wedding, if the player defeats the Dream Devourer instead of Lavos.
